Chapter 11

Unprotected

What I Learned About Survival, Systems, and Why Your Organization’s AI Strategy Is Already Costing You

You already use AI. So does your team. So do your vendors. It is making decisions and moving data inside your organization right now, in places you never mapped. That is not tomorrow's problem. That is today, and most leaders cannot see it. Unprotected is about that blind spot. I served in the Navy and I work as a federal cybersecurity professional, and the pattern is always the same. AI risk is a human behavior problem, not a technology problem. Uncontrolled decision-making plus uncontrolled data flow equals exposure. So when something goes wrong, and eventually something does, you face one question. Can you explain, defend, and justify how AI is used in your organization? In this chapter I give you the lens to see your exposure before it costs you, and a working model (Locate, Identify, Operationalize, Neutralize) to build defensibility you can stand behind. Not a binder that sits on a shelf. An operating system. Read it, then go look at your own house.

Key Takeaways

  • AI risk is a human behavior problem, not a technology problem.
  • Uncontrolled decision making plus uncontrolled data flow equals exposure.
  • The real question is not whether you use AI. It is whether you can defend how you use it.
  • You don't have a gap. You have exposure.
  • Defensibility, not perfection, is the goal.

About Keri "Isiah" Turner

I grew up in Buffalo, NY, and served in the United States Navy during the Global War on Terror. Having navigated significant challenges, I have successfully rebuilt my life from the ground up on more than one occasion. These experiences have shaped my views and fueled my passion for the work I do today. That history is the reason I do this work. I don't just sound like someone who knows things. I sound like someone who survived things, and that is what people feel when they sit across from me. Today I work as a federal cybersecurity professional, and I founded Iron Lion AI Consulting, an AI risk and liability ecosystem built for law firms, medical practices, and financial advisors. My credentials sit underneath the work (CompTIA Security+, ISC2 CC, NIST RMF, and a degree in Computer Information Systems with a focus in Information Systems Security), but credentials are not the point. The point is what they let me see. Here is what I see. AI is already inside your organization, making decisions and moving data in places you never mapped. AI risk is not a technology problem. It is a human behavior problem. Uncontrolled decision-making plus uncontrolled data flow equals exposure. Most leaders call that a gap. It is not a gap. It is exposure, and exposure has a bill attached. So I named the threat AI Malpractice and the answer is AI Defensibility. My work runs on one model, LION: Locate every system, Identify where it touches the law, Operationalize real oversight, and Neutralize the risk you can. The goal is not perfection. The goal is defensibility, so that when something goes wrong tomorrow, you can explain, defend, and justify how AI is used in your organization. My chapter in AI in the Field, "Unprotected," is where this starts. Read it, then go look at your own house. When you are ready to see what you cannot currently defend, meet me at risk.ironlionaiconsulting.com.

Speaking

Everyone is teaching you how to use AI. I am teaching you how to survive it. I speak on AI Malpractice and AI Defensibility, the exposure your organization is carrying right now and cannot see. Audiences leave with a working lens, not a lecture. My signature keynote, "Can You Defend It?", walks through real cases where everyday AI use turned into legal liability, then hands the room a model to build defensibility before the bill arrives. Veteran, federal cybersecurity professional, and someone who rebuilt from nothing. I bring heat that stays quiet and lands hard.

Consulting

Iron Lion is an AI risk and liability ecosystem, not a consulting firm in the usual sense. The front door is the AI Defensibility Audit, a $7,500 engagement that maps every place AI touches your organization and tells you exactly what you can and cannot defend. From there: governance implementation, risk literacy for your team and board, and a founding client tier for firms that want me in the room every quarter. Built for regulated industries (law, medicine, financial advisory) where one undefended decision becomes a lawsuit. You don't need another tool. You need to know you can defend the ones you already use.

Iron Lion AI Consulting LLC

Iron Lion AI Consulting helps regulated organizations survive the AI they already use. We locate hidden AI, map it to real legal exposure (EEOC, FTC, CFPB, the EU AI Act), and build defensibility that holds up when it gets tested. AI Malpractice is the threat. AI Defensibility is the answer. We sell the answer.
